Side Note: Spoilers for the Camelot Singularity and the plot twist regarding Bedivere are present here.

Character Information

Name: Bedivere

Canon: Fate Grand Order

Canon Point: Right after he dies in the Camelot Singularity.

Age: After checking around including reading back over the Singularity chapter he is in, about 1500 years old.

History: Bedivere is considered to be one of the first Knights of the Round Table. He was steward and caretaker to the king and was with Artoria till the very end after the Battle of Camlann. Now, his story in any other iteration ultimately culminates in him returning Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake after failing to do so twice before relenting. However, the Bedivere here is the result of an "if" possibility; What if Bedivere never returned the Holy Sword, leaving Artoria to wander and not die the death she was supposed to.

Bedivere, feeling guilty from his own insubordination, wandered the earth to search for his lost king, Excalibur still in hand. With the sacred sword in his possession he been granted the same kind of immortality Artoria had as its owner; no longer aging as the rest of the world moved on. He never stopped searching, even as his body broke down and his soul exhausted itself, both having lived long past the point that they should of before he eventually washed up on the shores of Avalon where Merlin had found him.

It was there that Merlin told him what had become of Artoria. How she had been left to wander and changed from the influence of her sacred lance Rhongomyniad; becoming a divine spirit and the lance's avatar, losing her humanity in the process. She had now become the Lion King and, in a Singularity formed from the Incineration of Humanity, she had taken over Jerusalem creating what appeared to be a new Camelot. Ultimately, Merlin sent him on his way after fashioning Excalibur into looking like the silver arm of the Celtic god Nuadha to both hide it from Bedivere's fellow knights who had been summoned as Servants as well as allow him to battle on equal grounds with them. But Merlin gives Bedivere one final warning; no matter the outcome of this journey he was taking he would still die.

He awakened in the Holy Land and began to make his way to the Holy City, only once detouring to help out the player and Mash to smooth over a misunderstanding with Nitocris. He makes it to the Holy City and blends in with the many refugees seeking sanctuary, waiting for his chance to get past the gates. The gates eventually open, signaling the beginning of the Holy Selection--a process the Lion King does to determine who will be allowed into the city--and the Holy Knights come out, led by Sir Gawain. What becomes apparent very quickly is that those who are not chosen are then culled by the Holy Knights, something Bedivere would not normally stand for but he was too focused on his goal and something he later admits to feeling shame over. It is only when he sees the player and Mashu fighting to save and allow the refugees escape does he act, coming to defend them from Gawain who is surprised to see him there.

Bedivere joins the agents of Chaldea properly from then on, traveling with them to the villages of the people of the mountain. Their journey isn't easy needing to protect the refugees while being chased and lose Da Vinci in the process. But they make it through all the same. They come into contact with Hassan of the Cursed Arm and Arash with whom they ally with once arriving in the village. A series of events then follow where they defend one of the villages from Mordred, Bedivere passes out from using Airgetlam, reawakens at a later date after the player and co. return from rescuing Hassan of Serenity and having picked up Xuanzang Sanzang and Tawara Touta, hold a celebration, meet with King Hassan only for Tristan to attack another village and Arash sacrifice himself by using his Noble Phantasm to cancel out the Lion King's Light of Judgement, go back into the desert, are pursued by Lancelot, unexpectedly meet with Sherlock Holmes in the Atlas Institute, get the information they need along with discovering which Heroic Spirit Mash had merged with (Galahad), leave only to do battle with Lancelot and defeat him, gain an ally with the Knight of the Lake, and find out Da Vinci isn't dead.

Bedivere again splits off from the group to tell the people of the mountain the good news about their army-raising efforts while the Chaldea group go to ask Pharaoh Nitocris and Pharaoh Ozymandias for help. They regroup back in the village and prepare for the next day when the assault on the Holy City is to begin. During that time, Bedivere heads to the outskirts to cry away his fear in peace only to be discovered by Mash. They have a conversation with each other and Bedivere admits to her that he had been only using them to get into the Holy City and how it was because of their bravery that he fought back against the Holy Selection, even if it was out of frustration with himself since the old him wouldn't have stood by and kept his head down when something like that was happening right in front of him.

Come the next day the assault begins and he remains with the player's group for the entirety of it. They break through the gates of the Holy City with Sanzang's aid--though the act kills her--and battle their way through the knights there, are blocked off by a magical force field and forced in confronting Mordred once more whom they defeat after Bedivere says his piece to her. The force field blocking their path is destroyed by Ozymandias with the help of Nitocris, killing the both of them in the process. Tristan appears to stand in their way once more but the Hassans show up to battle him; keeping him busy so the main party can continue on.

Once inside the castle, Bedivere takes charge in leading them through it since it is an exact replica of the castle in Camelot. Before they can make it to the throne room Gawain stands in their way as one final obstacle. It is there that Gawain reveals that all of the Round Table had been summoned by the Lion King, sans Galahad and Bedivere, and all of them had been given the choice of doing what it was that they desired. And, contrary to what Bedivere had initially thought, the knights not present weren't killed in battle by the Crusaders who were supposed to exist in this time, but rather by Tristan, Lancelot, Agravain, Mordred, and Gawain who had sided with the Lion King due to their own regrets and wanting to be better knights for the king they felt they had let down. Gawain dies, but his last words to Bedivere are him admitting that he resents him and lamenting that if Bedivere had been there from the beginning then maybe Artoria wouldn't have lost her human heart to the lance.

With no more knights to oppose them they finally make it to the throne room and at last confront Artoria--or rather, the Goddess Rhongomyniad, avatar of the sacred lance. She speaks to the party about what it is that she is trying to accomplish, revealing that she was trying to save and protect humanity in her own way. By preserving only the most virtuous of humans who will never fall to evil within the lance, a small part of humanity would be able to survive the Incineration, effectively becoming butterflies within a display case. Naturally, the protagonist, Mash, Bedivere, and Da Vinci do not stand for this. Battle ensues and it is a difficult fight. Mash, who up until this point of the game was unable to fully make use of her Noble Phantasm, finally unleashes its real form; Lord Camelot. She uses it to defend against the power of the sacred lance and when she begins to struggle, Bedivere steps in, body crumbling and breaking down. It's there that he reveals that he wasn't a Servant like everyone else, a fact that had been kept hidden thanks to Magecraft. He was, in fact, the real Sir Bedivere from the time of Camelot. The Lion King, who up until this point didn't recognize Bedivere at all, starts to remember when he reveals Airgetlam's true identity; Excalibur. She tries to convince him back to her side even though her memory is still fragmented and Bedivere calmly refuses, telling her that he is a knight a of the King of Knights and therefore an enemy she must try to strike down. One last fight ensues and in the end, he strikes the Lion King with Airgetlam, finally returning the sword and bringing his long journey to an end. The Lion King's memories of Bedivere return and she commends him for proving his loyalty. He dies smiling, no longer burdened by his regret.

Personality: Bedivere is compassionate and loyal to a fault. That doesn't mean he isn't incapable of feeling things like disgust, disappointment, or anger though. But, according to some of his other lines when he's a Servant in Chaldea, there isn't anything that he hates. He didn't even hold any hatred for the invaders from across the sea or the monsters that the knights had fought over the course of Artoria's reign. With him, everything comes back to Artoria as he has dedicated his entire life to his service to her, something that remained even when Camelot eventually fell.

His compassion comes through in his cordiality and rather dignified way of speaking. Chivalry is, like his fellow knights, very much a part in how he carries himself. He even says, "To crush the strong and aid the weak. That decision is always correct, more than any other." When the player's group is escorting the refugees and Da Vinci had, seemingly, sacrificed herself, Bedivere helps out on the food front by suggesting they hunt the monsters roaming the wasteland which, thankfully, goes well and doesn't cause poisoning. It was to help the refugees under their protection who in return were helping them, as was part of the agreement Bedivere had suggested to them. His kindness also shows itself when he interacts with Mash, acting very much the part of a senior knight giving advice to their junior. Something that becomes integral in the final battle with the Lion King when he encourages Mash to stand firm, telling her that as long as she never loses heart then Camelot's walls would never fall to any attack.

The moments where he displays anger and outrage are best exemplified when he comes into confrontation with his former comrades during the Camelot Singularity. One of the first things he does during the Holy Selection, after acting on feelings of frustration when he saw Mash and the Master of Chaldea fighting back to allow the refugees to flee. He chastises Gawain for his harsh words towards Mash, saying that he had no right to criticize her for trying to do the right thing while Gawain took part in killing those who could not defend themselves. With Mordred, he was cold and determined, telling her that he had nothing to say to her, indicating that what she did all those years ago was something he remembers very, very clearly. Confronting Tristan revealed how painful it was for him to fight his fellow knights and former friends is not something he takes pleasure in. But, as he states, it because they were friends that he cannot forgive any of the actions they are taking.

Another aspect of his personality is how humble he is. He never brags about his station or the positions he held in King Arthur's court to the point of almost downplaying them. Compared to the other knights, there wasn't much to him other than he had one arm, was one of the first knights, and was the one who was by Artoria's side in her final moments. In his words he was "the first among the Round Table at being boring."

Above all, his most defining trait when it comes to his personality has to be his loyalty. He is a knight of the Round Table and in service to the King of Knights and Camelot's fall hasn't changed that. Everything he did was for the sake of his king and because of that he was torn because he didn't want to lose her. It was his loyalty that led to his disobedience, to Artoria becoming the Lion King, and it domino-affected into the Sixth Singularity becoming what it did. And Bedivere, painfully aware of the sin that he had committed, still chased after her in order to return Excalibur to the being his king had become. Because that was the form his loyalty took and that one final act had been his redemption.

Abilities & Skills: He is a top-tier swordsman despite only having one arm but that is all to him, combat-wise. In the Camelot Singularity, and as a Servant in Chaldea, he has Airgatlam for a Noble Phantasm but that does not apply to the Bedivere here since he returned Excalibur to his king and no longer has it. Which would mean he only has one arm once more.

Inventory/Companions: A long sword and travel cloak.

Choice: Witch

Reason: Out of the major knights of the Round Table, Bedivere is the one who is considered the "normal one." He had no special weapon or blessings to speak of before the Camelot Singularity so I think it would be interesting for him to get used to a sudden new skill set that is different from what he was used to.

Sample: This is a bit of an old one.
